Are you ready for BlackBoxTV’s Urban Legends Triple Feature coming Oct 30th?!?!
TonyV of BBTV ask me if I would write and direct a horror short for his Halloween special. Each of the three videos will feature an Urban Legend submitted by You!
It felt great to jump out of comedy and do a more serious piece. I plan to do more in the future!
So make sure to tune in to JoeNationTV on Oct 30th for the BBTV Halloween Special!
My friend and very talented actress @TarynOneil tweeted this link so I took a look and had to share it with you.
There is small spark of inspiration buried in this letter by Ernest Hemingway to his sister Ursula.
It is a simple letter from brother to sister but it speaks volumes about hard-work, determination, and believing in yourself. I have never read much of any of Hemingway’s work, but his name lingers on as one of America’s greatest writers.
In the recent film, “Midnight In Paris” written and directed by Woody Allen, Hemingway is depicted as an intelligent, half-reckless, interesting character. ‘Midnight in Paris’ was my first time ever really seeing these legendary writers represented in the flesh, of course they are played by Hollywood actors, but there seems to be a unique truth that lies in their character.
So take a read at this simple letter (Click the image to link to article!) If you have a passion for writing, directing, acting, or even passions beyond the entertainment industry, know that you have to start somewhere. You might not be the best (you will witness some strange grammar choices Hemingway made in this letter) but if you believe in yourself and know you are bound for greatness, keep going cause every path is different and every path has a destination, but remember that every path needs a journey.
I decided to write this post because I feel that any human following their dreams need to be able to express / share their own experience as a means of passing on knowledge and hopefully some form a wisdom. That was a long sentence.
Recently, I have been diving head first into the world of cinema. In a recent interview I did with PartnersProject on YouTube, I quote myself as not being a film-buff and kind of stumbled upon the question of inspiration. It took me a long time to understand (I am still figuring it out!) why I am the way that I am; I write/direct/edit/act in all my videos yet can’t talk cinema. I have been sprinting down this path of self-seclusion only to realize that I have hit a brick wall. But the great part about this brick wall is that it can be broken down, even destroyed.
What I am trying to say is that I am guilty of ignoring my full potential as a filmmaker. I have been hiding behind this brick wall because I am afraid of what I will discover on the other side. It sounds cheesy and cliche but its beyond true. All artists are afraid of failure, we all are afraid of success, some of us just hide it better than others!
Recently, I have been studying up on as much film as possible. I try to watch a film a day and listen to endless hours of interviews with directors and writers searching for knowledge, wisdom, and most importantly, inspiration. From James Cameron to Alfred Hitchcock, if you want to succeed you have to live film, breath it, own it.
I wanted to start sharing more of my experience as a filmmaker living in LA because you only see the sculpted side of my work when a piece is finished. You don’t see the struggle or the process, all you see is the finished product. Awareness is very important in the processes of following your dreams, so I will use this as a tool to break down my walls. I feel fortunate that I have hit a brick wall (and trust me there will be many) and I am in the process of nuking it to the best of my ability. Following your dreams isn’t easy. There are so many people fighting the battle. You have to be a warrior, you have to be determined. You have to be willing to risk it all, take that monstrous leap of faith because at the end of the day, no one is going to do it for you unless you do it yourself.

Inspiring speech by Director James Cameron (Avatar, Titanic, Terminator) via TED Conference.
Cameron talks about his childhood and what led him to become the storyteller he is today. I have gotten the opportunity to speak to James Cameron myself and he truly is a great listener and inspiration to all of us fighting for our dream.
“In whatever you are doing, failure is an option, but fear is not.”

FILM TIPS #3!
I talk about different ways you can achieve Image Stabilization for when shooting Handheld. Never shoot with your bare-hands when shooting with HDSLRs. Your hands have a very subtle shake and you will see it in your footage.
More tips to come!
